BSG simply rules.

Quickie site update: Still twiddling with the site. Comments are sort of working now, with a popup window. I know it’s hard to see the text in the input boxes; I’m working on it.

I haven’t yet commented on last Friday’s Battlestar Galactica mid-season cliffhanger. It was an excellent ep, as good as the previous weeks’ (although last week’s is still currently my fav episode so far). My main complaint is that we have to wait three fracking months to see the resolution to the cliffhanger! Spoilers to follow…

Initial reactions… I am really growing to like the Chief more & more, and Helo has also grown on me (he was never a really interesting character to me until lately). I really like this wierd situation they are in regarding the Sharons, and I absolutely *loved* last episode where they both raced to save her. The abuser’s death was clearly an accident–although the Chief might have pounded him into oblivion had he not died, and I would have cheered him on. I was surprised that I felt pity for the beaten & abused Number Six in custody on the Pegasus, especially once it is made clear exactly what she’s been through and that it might affect her like it does a human. The well-placed comment earlier in the ep by Dr. Baltar about how the responses she shows clearly demonstrates that the “toasters” respond to things as humans do—in other words, that they seem to actually feel/be affected by events, really puts a twist in there, although I don’t dare think it’s really that simple. With this show, you have to constantly re-evaluate characters and situations, perpetually weigh whether or not they are sympathetic or unsympathetic. The Sharon in custody has done nothing but help the humans, and although that cannot prove much (considering what she it/what she can do), she does not deserve horrific treatment. As a Talkbacker said on Aint’ It Cool News about this ep, it’s not about their morality, but about ours.

Also beautifully done in the ep was Baltar’s reaction to seeing Six in that condition, and it really hits home that he does love her. He’s losing his mind from guilt about his hand in the human holocaust, but he loves the woman he knew—as the Chief does, and Helo. I’m wondering when we’ll see a woman love a Cylon man…

It’s funny how, if you are involved with the storyline, you perfectly understand what is happening, why things happened as they did, and what it has taken for these people to deal with all that’s happened so far. But then bring in “outsiders,” i.e. the people of the Pegasus, and see it through their eyes…and suddenly you don’t blame Admiral Cain for reassigning people and questioning the decision to put the former Secretary of Education into the President’s role. From that outside perspective, it all does seem to be out of control. Of course, we find out how out-of-control Cain herself is, and I was egging Adama on as he ordered the Marine strike team to go get his men. Great stuff—but GAH!! Three months to wait!! *sigh*…
