New, and deliberate, eyes

Here’s a new favorite quote I found on the lovely blog A Room of One’s Own:

“The real voyage of discovery consists,
not in seeking new landscapes
but in having new eyes.”

~Marcel Proust

That is one of the truest statements I’ve heard in a long time. I’m going to apply it to my upcoming trip, which starts tomorrow. While there are going to be many frustrations, I am going to make a point to deliberately look away from them and keep my eyes open for good things, blessings, and smile-inducing moments. I am getting a new camera (finally), and I hope to come back with it full of inspiring images from L.A.: Beautiful mountains looming over the bustling city, the Hollywood sign that still gives me a thrill every time I see it, stars on the sidewalk, the crowds along Santa Monica beach…and in between all of that, I’m going to look for flowers, birds, sunsets…and whatever else inspires me.
