Happy New Years Eve!

I’m very much looking forward to 2010. Can’t wait to start all my homesteading plans! As for the calendar turnover itself, I’m celebrating at home tonight, to save money, but I don’t see this as a bad thing. In fact, it’s gonna be fun!

My roommate and I are cooking, and as I’ve mentioned before, we’re both good cooks, so there will be a bunch of food (that will last us for a week, probably). The day began with eggs I made for myself, and my roommate made a huge skillet of potatoes & onions cooked in butter (I’m a whole/traditional foods devotee, so butter is a Good Thing in this house. More on that in the coming weeks)…

Not much left when I took the pic…heh.

For tonight, I am making black beans…

Yes, there are beans in there. They’re soaking. Really.

I know that black-eyed peas are traditionally good luck to eat on New Year’s, but that’s a southern U.S. tradition; elsewhere in the world, legumes of all kinds are good luck. I happened to have black beans on hand, so black beans it is! They are going to go perfectly with the roast pork my roommate is making later on. Mmmmmm…I am craving that roast pork.

And then for “dessert”…

Mmmmm again! The sweet potato casserole I made today is calling my name. I dearly love it. It’s full of real ingredients (i.e. whole milk & butter from grass-fed cows & eggs from free-range chickens, turbinado sugar, etc)…but ok, I did put marshmallows on top, lol! Those aren’t so “real.” ;) But they were still in the pantry…can’t let stuff go to waste…that’s my excuse, and I’m sticking to it! ;) I’m gonna have a hard time not digging into this until dinner. Man the house smells good!

Roomie & I plan to enjoy some cheap champagne—having fun with jokes about it being cheap—and enjoy the food. If it doesn’t rain, we’ll make a fire outside in the little firebowl, watch all the fireworks in the neighborhood (lots of people go nuts with them around here), and drink as much champagne as we want, knowing we can crash where we land. LOL!! Roommate might break out her electric guitar (she used to play in bands ages ago), I might sing, and I’ll be thankful that there isn’t anyone around to record such things. Oh, and then there’s leaving silly notes to friends on Facebook and sending silly texts to them as well. Think what you will, but *I* think my budget New Years Eve plan is pretty rockin’! ;-)

Here’s hoping you have a wonderful New Years Eve, however you celebrate, and lovely New Year’s day. May you envision and create a happy & content 2010! :)

November has been an interesting month. I’ve made some insights & discoveries about myself, things I didn’t expect and in ways I didn’t expect. Ok, ok, sometimes my avoidance of news media makes me miss really cool things. Creative Goddess: I am finally into the first week’s project of the Creative Goddess course, and I’m loving it. I actually was scared of the blank canvas, as Leonie said might happen…but once I started playing with the paint, all that went away.
