Rant time

(This will be a rant. Fair warning.)
Just in case you don’t really understand why people like me loathe, absolutely, bone-deep loathe, huge corporations and their in-bed partner, the government, here are a few examples I read today and they clearly show where the hatred comes from:

  • From Organic Consumers Association: “France’s top judicial court has denied Monsanto’s requests to grow test plots of genetically engineered corn in two locations. The court says the biotech corporation has not provided enough details about where these experimental field trials would be located. Monsanto has responded by saying that despite the court ruling, the corporation will continue testing genetically engineered crops in France. “We’ll continue our experiments, but we might have to change a bit the way we ask for licenses in the future,” said Yann Fichet, director of external relations for Monsanto France.” A court says no, but the monster that is Monsanto says it’ll do what the hell it wants, regardless. Imagine what happens if a mere citizen tries that! Everyone needs to boycott everything Monsanto. I’m so glad the rest of the world is smart enough to do it (we are the only country, for example, that does not ban the bovine growth hormone, made by Monsanto. The rest of the world understands—it’s dangerous. But oh no, the fools who “run” this country and the bastards who make money off of leeching us of quality of life make sure the US ingests that filth. Ugh.)
  • From a Care2 alert: Insurance companies cover Viagra prescriptions, but not contraceptives. Not a whole lot else to say about that. If you don’t see a problem with it, you’re brain dead and should just crawl away & disappear. And people think women have achieved equality in this country…
  • And, of course, there is the beginning of all the smokescreen issues that the Repulsican Right Wrong is beginning to churn out. Immigration? Ridiculous “issue,” in that immigrants *do* run this country, and if Repulsican-led companies would stop hiring them, they’d have no jobs. But they do the work no one else wants to do, and for pay no one would work for. Whose fault is that? The companies who hire them. And those companies are run by…anyway, you get my drift. Other smokescreen issues are books coming out by clueless women telling poor women to get back to their kitchens, become slaves, and be happy. It’s really, really pathetic. Flag burning is set to be another one (Constitutional amendment banning flag burning). So in an era of warmongering—including *nuclear* warmongering!—soaring gas prices and record profits for oil companies, corruption within the Repulsican ranks, etc etc etc, yes, let’s put our attention on immigration, women’s livelihood, and flag burning. Because those things are the *real* issues. Uh-huh. Yes, siree.

I’m done for now. Have a bad taste in my mouth.

So I decided to return a pair of Baby Phat heels I’d gotten because they were too uncomfortable (and looked too much like a pair I already had), but I found another pair I really liked—and that were cheaper than the heels, so I got a bit of a refund. So what does a geek…
