A measure of bliss
I had been craving ice cream, which I don’t crave very often. I’d also been craving a richer chocolate taste, as every so often I need more than simply a few squares of organic dark. So I decided to pick up one of my favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavors, Chocolate Fudge Brownie (after checking that it didn’t have any of the ingredients I am boycotting—and it doesn’t, which is what I expected. Only things like cream, sugar, cocoa, etc.)
As I “mmmm”‘d and “aaaahh”‘d around the first few bites, I got thinking…there is nothing like that first bite of something so delicious. Then another bite, then another—but not much more than that. Have you ever noticed that there is a point of diminishing bliss-return? For ice cream, mine’s about 1/5 of the way into a Ben & Jerry’s pint; if I eat any more at one go, it just doesn’t taste as good as those first few bites. It’s meant to be savored, not devoured.
And yes, I measure my bliss by how far I eat into the actual pint container. Come on, who takes the time to spoon this stuff out when it’s your pint? ;-)
