A Midsummer bounty!
Don’t you just love it when you forget having certain things on hand, and then suddenly you remember, with a SNAP! Oh yeah!! moment? That’s what just happened to me. This time of year I always get into my major planting mode, wanting to turn my roommate’s entire backyard into a garden. Since I can’t do that, I’m going to see if I can wheedle a raised bed or two from her, but then until that happens, I can’t not plant things. So I said to myself, ok, I’ll get some seedlings & seeds and big pots to plant them in, so I can go ahead and get to it. Then I started making a list of what I want to try growing…
And SNAP! Memory returns! Don’t I already have a bunch of seeds around here somewhere that I ordered way back when?
The answer to that, with very little rooting around in boxes, was a resounding YES!

How’s that for a nice little haul, quietly hidden away in a box, awaiting the day I’d come back to it? I’ve got mugwort, soapwort, morning glory, nettle, calendula, dame’s rocket, “wildflower mix,” sweet peas, limas, sunflowers, motherwort, skullcap, yarrow, feverfew, lemon balm, dandelion, comfrey, nasturtium, milk thistle, mullein, hyssop, coneflower (woot!), and chamomile. Almost all of them organic and/or heirloom, too! *does happy dance*
Now, whether or not all of these seeds are still viable, and whether or not all of the varieties will grow in this heat are questions yet to be answered, lol. But I’ve got what I need to start. :-) I’m going to get enough large planting containers to start probably 13 different kinds of seeds (keeping one type per pot will make it easier to remember what’s what), and keeping them in pots for now will also be part of the experiment; if I feel that a plant needs more or less sun, I can move it. This is probably the best trial & error way of learning what I can grow and where I need to grow it. While many herbs require full sun, in this part of Florida they’ll need at least part shade (or dappled sun). So we’ll see…let the adventure begin!
